Body is a collaborative project by Chihiro Honda and Maureen Muse. Introduced through curator Ikuhisa Sawada, the two artists developed the exhibition over several months through the exchange of artworks, images, and written instructions.
In order to construct a single exhibition space while working from separate locations, the artists adopted the exchange of artworks as their method of production. The process began when Honda created four “boxes” and sent them to Muse. After receiving the works, Muse interpreted them and conceived a virtual installation, returning the works together with a set of instructions.
After receiving these materials in Tokyo, Honda interpreted the returned works and instructions and produced new works in response. While confronting the actual exhibition space, she composed the installation.
Through these exchanges, the initial plan was gradually updated. The repeated processes of interpretation and production became reflected in the spatial configuration, and the installation in this exhibition emerged through this ongoing exchange.
