Kukei no Ku-do / 矩形の空洞

KUKEINO KU-DO

2020, Tokyo

This is an installation work that is centered around a book I made myself, which has 1000 pages.
On each of the 1000 pages, there is a face drawn on it. My name contains the kanji character for “thousand”, and in Buddhism, the word “thousand” means “endlessly many”. The moment now cannot be captured, but by piling them up, it becomes eternal. The faces printed on the thin paper overlap with the face below before the page is turned over, and when the page is turned over, the face becomes distorted and it is impossible to confirm the original. At the exhibit, there are various sounds, such as the sound of the paper being rubbed by the wind, the sound of a bonfire burning, and the sound of water dripping. There are also images of a river flowing and a fire burning. The act of simply turning the pages in this chaotic situation evokes a meditative feeling.
