When Where / いつ どこで

When Where

This work places two LED signboards in separate windows.
One displays dates—such as days on which historical events took place in the area of the exhibition—while the other shows local place names: roads, slopes, or bridges.

Appearing and disappearing in random order, these fragments form a sculpture of language.
The words that emerge resonate with countless meanings, quietly questioning the fundamental condition of “here and now” while also gesturing toward its inverse.

The shifting combinations evoke a kind of silent pull—without beginning or end, right or wrong—producing a reverberating hollow.
It is at once a structure formed by the force of language and a stratum of time.
